Implications of Flood Risk Reduction Interventions on Community Resilience: An Assessment of Community Perception in Bangladesh

Bangladesh, a flat densely populated country in dynamic delta, is vulnerable to recurring flood disasters. Various types of structural and non-structural risk reduction interventions have been implemented over the years safeguard people assets. In that context, present study assesses community perception about implications such diverse on resilience, three reasonably proximate settlements, with varying characteristics: Type 1 settlement has protection embankment; 2 no intervention, 3 interventions. Through mixed-method assessment selected results reveal both positive negative these local communities. While embankment contributed towards enhancing infrastructural resilience settlement, it still reportedly does not provide complete safety. On other hand, measures are reported increased competencies but long-term sustainability traits uncertain. Furthermore, uncover “connectedness among communities” as an inherent characteristic all locations, whereas stated be partly associated social tension marginalization certain socio-economic groups.
